Think about a tragic novel, play or film you have read or seen. Why is the main character ruined or killed? How is the audience affected? What is to be learned? Why do people like to see such dark dramas?

Out of all of the novels, plays or films I've seen, I think the most tragic has to be Death Note. In this anime, there is not only one main character that dies, but TWO! I found that really amazing, and the outcome of it all was even more amazing. Death Note was extremely tragic, and I was shocked about how everything turned out, and how everything worked out so perfectly.

One must know about Death Note first. The anime is about a teen, Light, who finds a notebook that has the unbelievable power of being able to kill anyone, as long as you know the name and face of that person. L, the other main character, is the best investigator of the world, and makes it his mission to solve the case, which was called the Kira case.

It was shocking, because both Light and L were extremely smart, but due to cheating, Light manages to kill L. Through experience, I find that everyone gets sad over L's death. There's something about L's character that makes his death extremely tragic, and it starts a lot of debate. At the same time, his death was exciting since L died about ten episodes before the ending (About 34 episodes in total), so there was still much more to see.

It wasn't over there. L died right after he figured out Light was Kira, or the person that was committing all of the murders with the Death Note. It's sad because Light had become L's best friend, so I think the audience would have some sort of reaction or resentment towards Light. At the same time, people supported Light since he was trying to create a perfect world. In the end, L's succeeders expose Light, and Light dies by his very own Death Note.

It was the best anime I had ever seen. Yet, it was so tragic. So that makes me think. Why is something so tragic, but yet I enjoy watching it anyways? A lot of people think the same way. Dark dramas are very enjoyable to watch. I think the reason for this is because the concept seems to realistic fiction, people can fantasize about it happening to themselves or other people. The concept itself is enjoyable to watch, and very entertaining.

The first thing that comes up to my mind when people say tragedy is the movie Titanic. In the movie one of the main characters died because of the ship sinking. Everyone knows the story because is based on true-story. Yet, some people might not know it at all. Or they just don’t remember.

The main protagonists were Jack and Rose. Like in Romeo and Juliet they felt in love and wanted to be together. But just like Juliet, Rose’s parents wanted to marry her with someone else. In Titanic, Jack and Rose couldn’t escape because they were stuck in a ship. Therefore they met secretly until Rose’s future husband found out about it.

He planned a trap to get rid of Jack and make him look bad in front of Rose. This was an act of vengeance because he wanted Rose to love him. As this happens the ship was filling with water and sinking. Rose didn’t wanted to leave Jack behind so she went to rescue him. But her effort was in vain because Jack still died at the end.

I think people like to see the main protagonist die at the end because it adds more drama to the movie. They don’t always want to see a happy ending. Movies always end up with the two main characters together and marrying. Some people want to be creative and do something different. Yet I don’t think this is a good thing because it leaves the audience in suspense and wanting to know what happens after.

A lot of people enjoy this kind of drama because it entertains them. They don’t know what would happen to the main characters or how the story is going to end. It keeps them in suspense and they star imagining things. Which they want to confirm if its true. That’s why I think a lot of people like to see this kind of drama.

"The Oedipus Plays of Sophocles An All Time Tragedy"

Tragedy have become the new hit theme in today's novels just as they were decades ago. Sophocles Athenian tragedy, Oedipus the King is a novel read and enjoyed by dark drama followers that enjoy the ruined main character at the tip of their seats and the motto the novels provide. This tragedy was then translated by Paul Roche who in his translation captures the same exhilarating drama and border seat action. This story included in the novel The Oedipus Plays of Sophocles is the perfect tragedy, the main character is ruined and killed, the audience is then affected by such twist and nonetheless it pleases the demanding readers expectations of a great tragedy.

The main character in this novel was Oedipus whom at first is introduced as a young traveler destined to kill his father and marry his mother. As the next plays are developed the character endures much physical pain but more so mental torture. As he realizes his predestined acts he stabs his eyes and soon becomes an old interdependent man. He is isolated from the country he once ruled and is latter killed. Perhaps Oedipus was tortured and killed in order to add suspense and feeling to the novel. It also gives the novel a lesson or motto. Nonetheless if those actions hadn't taken place, the novel wouldn't even be considered a tragedy.

The audience is affected by such drastic twist of a typical "Cinderella Story" where there appears to always be a happy ending. It adds suspense and a what will happen next curiosity. The audience is drawn into the novel and is put into the position of the characters reality. Therefore, it adds feeling and depth to the novel.

This novel like most tragedies has a motto, or a lesson that is learned by the character through a series of consequences, in this case very drastic consequences. In this tragedy the main character, Oedipus learns that life is not always what one believes it to be. One lives a destiny, a predetermined life that sometimes one cannot change. Life appears to be written in stone and regardless anyone's attempts to change it it is useless. Oedipus soon realizes regardless his actions he was destined to kill his father and marry his mother just as the oracle said he would.

Overall, people of all ages and all times appreciate a great tragedy. People like such dark drama, and its realistic brutality. It likes the distinct ending and twisty turns. A great beginning and an unpredictable ending gets a reader reading and thinking and perhaps even living in the characters shoes. I mean who wouldn't enjoy such exhilarating, end of your seat novel like The Oedipus Plays of Sophocles, by Paul Roche.

One play that I have read that the main character gets ruin is on the plays of Oediopus by Sophocles. On this play according to a prophecy given to him, he is to kill his father and married his mother. When his parents heard of it they were devasted. Instead, of finding a wait to prevent it they took the easy way out. Which was to sent their son far away. Oedipus never his parents and ended up ruining his life as wells as others.

First, Oedipus lived far away from his home from which was Thebes, but ne never knew that. Instead he lived with the family he thought were his true parents in Corinth. When he heard of the prophecy Oedipus didn't want it to happen so he left Corinth and went someplace else. On his way he was challenge by an old man and its group and he killed them all. Oedipus then moved on and ended it up on Thebes. Here he becomes King and marries the Queen of the previous King.

When Oedipus heard that the previous King befoe him got murder he wanted to find out who did and bring him or her to justice. When thre truth was told everybody was affected. Oedipus had killed the King who was his and married the Queen who was his mother. His mother was shocked and ended up committing suicide. Oedipus blinded himself and left Thebes leaving the throne to his brother-in-law, Creon.

His daughters and sons began to have a bad reputation thanks to his father and to the prophecy which he was doom to have. Oedipus ends up dying on a place where people workship Hades. His two sons ended up fighting one another on a war between Athens and Thebes and killed one another. Antigone which is one of the daughters is locked away because she disovey the law that Creon put. However, she ends up haning herself when locked away.

Antigone's lover and son of Creon ends of committing suicide as well. The pain was to great that he couldn't take it anymore and committed suicide. His mother when he saw his son dead also committed suicide. Creon was left in misery and would never forget this.

In the end Oedipus was ruin because of the prophecy made about him. Every single character that knew was seriously affected by this. Everybody ended up doing something and cause them their life and the life of others as well.

There are tragic films where the main character dies, loved ones of the main character dies, and all the characters die. In this movie, this tragic movie has most of the characters die, except three. Those characters killed included the main one, Sweeney Todd. This story was a simple love story then it turned into a tragic story full of revenge.

The story starts off with a man named Benjamin Barker. He had a wife named Lucy and a daughter named Johanna. Then there was a judge, Judge Turpin, who loved Lucy. He took Benjamin away and locked him up in prison for fifteen years. He comes out with a new identity, Sweeney Todd.

He arrives in London with a young lad named Anthony. He falls in love with a young girl, who happens to be Sweeney's daughter. Sweeney befriends a meat pie maker named Mrs. Lovett. She has a meat pie empourium below Sweeney's barber shop. Mrs. Lovett meets a young boy named Toby.Toby helps Mrs. Lovett around the meat pie shop. Sweeney wanted revenge, so he would "shave" men's throats and send them to Mrs. Lovett, so they would be turned into meat pies. In the end, Sweeney gets his revenge but is disappointed at the same time.

He accidently killed his wife Lucy and Mrs. Lovett. He got his revenge by killing the judge. While Sweeney is grieving over his dead wife, Toby grabs Sweeney's razor and kills him. Ever since, Sweeney Todd was known as the demon barber of Fleet Street. But he will still be considered a villian of a tragedy.

All Sweeney wanted to do was get his revenge on those men who betrayed him. Once he got to the judge, he felt like he had completed his mission. Sweeney was a person who had to be killed off in the movie, since he killed other innocent men. Those who do wrong to others should get killed off. In this movie, definitely.

The audience seemed that Sweeney was the last person to go in the movie. Once they have seem the characters go off one by one, they can tell who will go next. The three children,(Johanna, Anthony, Toby) are the only ones left alive. Once they disappear, the audience knows that child doesn't die. It's pretty obvious to tell who is going to die and who is going to survive.

There is a lesson from this movie. If you want revenge, don't kill people to get it. Sweeney wanted to get Judge Turpin cause he was the one who seperated him and his life.But killing the man isn't going to make your life better. He accidently killed his own wife. He is mad and crazy Twisted Evil

But after Sweeney Todd killed Judge Turpin, he then realized the woman he killed was his wife. See how far revenge can go if you use it incorrectly. Sweeney Todd was a tragic film and it has a tragic ending.
