| Imagine yourself taking a stroll through downtown on a nice moon lit night. You see all these stores, restaurants, and take a glance at the stars to admire the beautiful night. As you might not know it, yes mythology affects al of that.
Ever since ancient roman and Greek times as entertainment, people shared stories about significant mythical gods, goddesses, or creatures. They used these “myths” to explain why things happened or existed. To begin what is a myth? A myth is a traditional or legendary story dealing with supernatural being ancestors, or heroes, usually explaining aspects of the natural world, psychology, customs, or ideals of society. Myths have existed for hundreds of years and have been passed on from generation to generations, still being told today.
So why do we still read and admire these myths today? Personally, I believe it is used as a form of entertainment. Back in ancient times, these people didn’t have cell phones, computers, televisions or radios like we do today. So they used these stories as a significant form of entertainment. These extraordinary and creative stories fill your mind and imagination.
In my opinion, if these myths have lasted all these centuries, their admiration will definitely last many years to come.

| Greek and Roman myths have brought a different way of learning about mythology. Since the entertainment is now mentioning these mythical characters of the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses, the purpose of these myths grow larger. The purpose for gods and goddesses is to have people entertained or know how the things we have today first originated. Like with Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, she was the one that gave us the wisdom. Helios was the sun god, Posideon, god of the sea, Hades lord of the underworld, and many more. There is a god or goddess of something out there. In 2009, it is important to learn about these famous Greek gods and goddesses.
There are many young children who have seen the Disney movie Hercules, based on a Greek God. They wantt to learn more about Hades, Hercules, and the mythical creature Pegasus, the winged horse. Theyhave a mind for fantasy with gods, goddesses, creatures and other mythical beings. Even though they are fantasy, they are actually a part of history. In 2009, we need to know more about our history and learning about the gods and goddesses will help us understand more thanwe have ever known. The media willmake us learn it and help us understand it more clearly than just orally teaching it to us. If more movies were made based on gods and goddesses, like Hercules, we could have more knowledge of these gods and goddesses.

| For me mythology is something that people made up to explain things that they didn't knew how it happened. I know that Greek and Romans had gods they believe in. they had gods for everything and every emotions. For example, Zeus, a Greek god was the god of the sky and the king of all of them. Greeks believed that everything that happen in the sky were the actions of Zeus.
Furthermore, I think we still read mythology to understand and know what people used to believe. Also I think they read it to learn Greek and Roman culture. But some people like to read it so they could be more knowledgeable. I read it because it’s fun and interesting. I get to know what people thought in those days. But now, gods and goddesses are considered to be fictional because now we have science to prove a thing that happens. Therefore people don’t believe in them no more.

Greek and Roman mythology affected, the people of their times and soon enough the generations that followed. The alluring, and mystical heroes, gods and creatures have affected the culture and beliefs of the people and have influenced our very own cultures and our society's ideas in a discrete way. Perhaps so discrete sometimes we don't notice the effects and importance that both modern and ancient mythology play in our daily lives. Many people don't know what mythology really is and consequently don't give it the credibility it is entitled to. What is mythology? Mythology as defined in encyclopedias is a collection of myths belonging to a people and addressing their origin, history, deities, ancestors, and heroes. Mythology allows people to remain loyal to their culture, history, origin and heroes. Passing down from generation to generation what ones land has endured and prospered allows the pride to grow in our souls. It preserves that dignity and respect for ones land. It allows one to never forget their roots. Other myths positively allow us to realize and appreciate the simplicity of life. Take Tarzan, the modern legend written by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs. A young "jungle man" who enjoys the outdoors and is able to live in a peaceful environment with wild animals who posses human like attributes. This legend can teach Americans and people all over the world how destroying and industrializing the world is not necessary. How sometimes happiness is within what is already provided by nature. Why tell your children that Santa is going to bring them presents for Christmas as a reward for their good conduct? Why tell them the tooth fairy will come after they endure the pain of a fallen tooth? Is it because these heroes offer them a condolence and enforces good conduct. Santa and the tooth fairy are both ancient myths that revolutionized and became the ones we know today. From the ancient Dutch folk character, to the modern Santa Claus that lives in the North Pole in his workshop at the North Pole with his elves, and the reindeer who pull his sleigh during Christmas Eve. Overall, modern mythology does influence and contribute to a major part of our lives. Even though we may not notice we are surrounded by myths that facilitate our lives and benefit us immensely. Its the small things that ancient mythology has revolutionized into that make up many of our holidays figures. From Christmas' Santa to Easters' Easter Bunny, mythic creatures are surrounding us and our loved ones. Perhaps it is time to give modern mythology the credit it deserves.

| To begin with, in order to understand myhology we need to define the word. A Myth is an imaginary or unreal story. These myths explain everything on earth in an imaginary way. Ancient people started making myths to understand and explain the roots of the universe and life on earth. This has existed for many years now, some story being very famous other not. But in the end, there are people who still believe in them and give them life to keep on living.
Mythology is a group of myths put together. Right now in 2009 you dont hear a lot about it. But it all depends in what you believe and where you live. For instance, in Greece you can tell a lot of people believe in them beacause it has come froits ancerstors. This has been happening for so long its difficult to believe it will end. People still talk about them, and many more write them, and develop them. Its something that keeps on living, just like air give us oxygen.

Mythology in 2009 Most people would say that mythology was the thing of the past and that it doesn’t play a role in twenty-first century but I am here to tell you in fact it does. Have you ever seen a movie that talks about famous heroes who did heroic things? If you seen such movies like Troy then you are witnessing mythology in the 21st century. The reason why is that people like Achilles are famous people who are apart of mythology. Another example of mythology playing a role in 2009 is animation. What I mean by animation is cartoons. Cartoons like Hercules talk of a man of great strength who rises against villains such as monsters. As a result that same mythology of Hercules is converted to cartoons for everyone to know and understand. Subsequently, cartoons not only make grownups understand mythology but kids as well enjoy watching something deriving from mythology. Also, books play a role in spreading mythology in modern times. Books like Oedipus are known to be chocked with mythology pertaining to gods like Zeus this in turn shows that mythology is alive and well. In addition to Oedipus books like Edith Hamilton’s talk of gods and Greek mythology and with Greek philosophy. Believe it or not though many people do read these books because they are loaded with action, suspense, drama, and most famous of all tragedy. An additional example of mythology playing a role in 2009 is the ideas we get from them. In modern society to better ourselves we must look back to the past and learn to move forward. On such thing we learned is the art of war. What is meant by this is that in mythology (being mostly war and tragedy) we see great people winning battles simply because of their tactics. As a result we learn from the tactics of the past to produce new ones that are sure to work. This thus helped many modern countries to produce an army not simply by numbers but by the tactics they fight by. In addition, Roman and Greek mythology being great forces of the past helped us to create our modern way of communication. The reason why is that most languages like French, Spanish, and Romanian have derived from either Roman or Greek culture. So you can basically say mythology for the most part paved the way for the modern world. So learning from this you can conclude that mythology was a central theme in the old days that set the ground work for modern society. Lastly, mythology also affects modern societies’ belief. For example mythology not only deals with gods and goddess but with stories of worship and afterlife. Most modern religions not being alike have some kind of base that is somehow related to mythology. For example in the past stories of people worshiping gods and going to an after life is still spoken of today and is still hypothetically followed today. So as you can see even the digital age has mythology imbedded in it that was made hundreds of years ago. Things like television only help in spreading the ideology of mythology. In addition to television books also help in circulating mythology in the 21st century. We have seen the descendant of mythology been pretty much the same as it was before, but simply the presentation of it has changed.

| What is mythology? To understand what mythology is, you first have to understand what a myth is. A myth is an unreal story or a made believe story.
Mythology is important in life of 2009. It may not be so important in the U.S, but it is very important to the Greeks. They are the ones that have developed mythology and still believe in it. The Greeks still tell their stories over and over again. It may not be that important in our lives, but it is still very important in theirs.
